Humanity at Work

Aug 09, 2017 / HWI News

At HWI, we pour the same passion and dedication into community outreach as we do the refractory business. Recently, an HWI team – made up of more than 100 employees and 15 vendors – raised more than $35,000 for Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania (JAWPA) at the Third Annual HarbisonWalker International Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon at AMF Lanes in Mt. Lebanon.

The funds raised will enable hundreds of local students in grades K-12 to benefit from programs that foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills. JAWPA delivers programming through experiential learning that inspires students to dream big and reach their potential.

“Our HarbisonWalker employees and vendors rallied to double the funds we raised at our annual JA Bowl-A-Thon last year,” said Carol Jackson, chairman and CEO, HarbisonWalker International and board member, Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania. “Speaking both for our company and JAWPA, I’m so grateful for the dedication, persistence, and creativity of this year’s employee committee — driven to make a difference in the community.”

Employees from 15 different HarbisonWalker International company locations came together in support of Junior Achievement. Participating locations included: Moon Township headquarters, West Mifflin Advanced Technology and Research Center in West Mifflin, PA; PA and Ohio field offices, and plants in Acton, ONT; Fairfield, AL; Fulton, MO; Oak Hill, OH; Pryor, OK; Smithville, ONT; South Shore, KY; Sproul, PA; Vandalia, MO; White Cloud, MI; and Windham, OH.
