The future of the refractory industry depends on skilled professionals who understand the importance of precision, craftsmanship and hands-on experience.
Recently, HWI, A member of Calderys, donated refractory brick to the IMI Alberta – Edmonton Training Center, a local bricklayer union trade school in Edmonton, Alberta, to help support advanced training and curriculum for the next generation of bricklayers.
Through this donation, HWI was proud to contribute materials that give students valuable hands-on experience as they develop the skills needed to build and maintain refractory linings in demanding industrial applications.
HWI made the donation with the support of local business partner and signed Contractor/Installer, Alliance Refractories. Alliance Construction Manager Paul Josey and Director of Training Nick Peters helped facilitate the contribution and continue to play an important role in supporting workforce development within the refractory industry.
“Investing in training is an investment in the future of our industry,” said Mike Vanderwater, HWI District Sales Manager. “We’re proud to provide materials that help students gain practical experience and develop the skills they’ll carry with them throughout their careers.”
As the refractory industry continues to evolve, developing knowledgeable and highly skilled tradespeople remains essential. HWI is committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the industry at every level—from innovative refractory technology and manufacturing to the hands-on training that prepares the next generation.
By working together with industry partners, trade schools and training organizations, HWI is helping build a stronger future for refractory craftsmanship in North America.
