Cost Savings Only a Fraction of Procurement Contribution

Asked to define the phrase “adding value” as he used it to describe procurement’s role in the company, Jason Borgesi, Senior Director of Global Procurement at HarbisonWalker International, responded with, “…contributions to corporate goals.” Borgesi was leading a session on procurement transformation at the 2016 NLPA Conference held recently at the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh.

In the session, Borgesi looked at changes he and his team have put into place in the past five years at HarbisonWalker International, where buyers used to “react to requisitioners.” Now, “buyers are more accountable for their facilities” where the thinking is “to make decisions best for the business.”
