What Does the Future of Refractories Sound Like?

HarbisonWalker International Launches High Temperature Times™
Refractory Technical Podcast Series

New podcast delivers refractory technical knowledge, innovation, and insights in an entertaining format

PITTSBURGH, PA — May 2020 — Grounded in the premise that refractory technical information and innovations also can be lively and entertaining, HarbisonWalker International (HWI), the largest supplier of refractory products and services in North America, has introduced High Temperature Times™, a new monthly podcast available for iOS and Android listeners.

High Temperature Times is hosted by Griffin Patterson, application technologist, HarbisonWalker International, and self-described lifelong learner who is accustomed to deftly translating technical concepts into understandable explanations. Patterson, along with a team at HWI, conceived the idea as a novel way to provide general information* in response to questions frequently posed to the HWI technical applications team. The podcast is designed to present refractory topics, insights and expert interviews in an engaging way that is easily relatable to all customers, business partners, and any listener who is interested in learning about the industry.

“As far as we know, High Temperature Times is the only podcast series dedicated to exploring refractories, which are essential for virtually every heat-intensive manufacturing process,” says Mike Werner, SVP, Commercial at HarbisonWalker International. “Although refractories have been around almost since the discovery of fire, at HWI and across our industry, we continue to innovate. Our podcast is an accessible and engaging way to communicate what’s new and interesting, and how we’re advancing refractory solutions to address customers’ needs.”

Guest Larry Morley, director, minerals processing applications, HarbisonWalker International, joins Patterson in the inaugural episode of High Temperature Times to discuss Alternative Fuels commonly used in the cement and lime industries, and their impact on refractory linings. Future episodes will cover refractory topics of interest to the steel, aluminum, copper, glass, chemicals, energy, waste management, pulp & paper, and other industries.
