HarbisonWalker International’s Industry-Leading 70% Alumina Brick Made in the USA
KRUZITE®-70
Did you know that the first use of the KRUZITE® name was almost 100 years ago, or that HWI was the first U.S. manufacturer to develop non-shrinking high alumina brick more than 50 years ago? These brick were so leading edge and ahead of their time that the U.S. space agency used them to build the launch pads for the early missions to the moon. Talk about performance under fire!
Since those early pioneering days, HWI has been optimizing the manufacturing process for these types of brick. In fact, in 2019 we spent over $1 million on further improvements to our already outstanding capabilities at our Fulton, MO manufacturing facility.
ARK®-70
A bauxite-based, 70% high alumina brick developed for the more demanding applications where improved alkali resistance is required.
Traditionally, 70% alumina brick contain a high amount of bauxite, limiting the alkali resistance of the brick. With ARK-70, this limitation has been overcome with the addition of an alkali inhibitor.
Laboratory tests have shown that this alkali inhibitor greatly improves the chemical resistance to anhydrous potassium carbonate without any adverse effects on the physical properties of the brick.
