For decades, Joe has demonstrated the knowledge, dedication, and relationship-driven approach that have helped strengthen the Contractor/Installer (C/I) community and advance the refractory industry.
A Legacy Built on Service
The history of Joe Moore and Company dates back to 1957, when the company was founded by Joe L. Moore, Sr. In 1960, the company became an HWI Contractor/Installer, beginning a partnership that has continued for more than six decades.
Joe Moore’s own journey reflects a remarkable combination of technical education, military service, and industry leadership. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Joe went on to enter the U.S. Naval Officer Candidate School (OCS) program.
During his military service, Joe served as Damage Control Assistant aboard APB-36 and later as Engineering Officer aboard LST 1176. His experience in engineering, leadership, and service helped shape the skills and perspective he would bring to his career in the refractory industry.

Throughout his career, Joe has demonstrated a commitment to serving customers, supporting the industry, and building strong partnerships. His leadership represents the kind of dedication that extends far beyond individual projects—it helps strengthen the people, companies, and relationships that keep the refractory industry moving forward.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes not only Joe’s accomplishments, but also the lasting impact of his leadership and example.
