Ceramic and glass industries, especially those working with refractory materials, are facing a serious talent gap as the current workforce ages and not enough students are entering the pipeline to take their place. Luckily, the Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF) is here to change that.
The CGIF was established by The American Ceramic Society in 2014 to attract, inspire, and support the next generation of ceramic and glass professionals. Since its inception, the CGIF has launched programs in student outreach, international student exchanges, travel grants, student leadership development, a university-industry network, and its online Ceramic and Glass Career Center.
CGIF board members are renowned in the fields of ceramic and glass and volunteer their time and talents to ignite student interest in materials science, helping introduce students and educators to ceramic and glass materials science through engaging programs and outreach. By creating awareness of materials science and training middle and high school students, the foundation is building standards-aligned curriculum to highlight manufacturing and industry opportunities. Throughout numerous programs and community outreach, the CGIF is committed to capturing the attention of young minds. The HWI Foundation has partnered with the CGIF to inspire the future and double our impact by matching donations received.
