Coolers and Kiln Hoods

Coolers receive hot material (clinker) discharged from the kiln and cool it as it is conveyed to handling and storage systems. To cool the clinker, ambient air is blown via fans up through the porous floor of the cooler. The service environment of the cooler is extremely abrasive, subject to wide swings in temperature and alkali attack.

Typically kiln feed used to make cement clinker enters the cooler at 1400°C and cools to about 150°C as it travels to the outlet. Because the service environment is very abrasive and subject to thermal shock on a regular basis, HarbisonWalker International’s products are focused mainly on abrasion resistance. Our product lines include VERSAFLOW®, VERSAGUN®, and VERSA-TECH.

HWI’s unique tongue-and-groove pressed cooler block systems are targeted for new installations. The refractory is fired before it is placed, providing superior performance and eliminating the need for 24 air cure and/or bakeout of materials.
