Titanium ore in the presence of carbon and chlorine gas will produce titania tetrachloride (TiCl4) in refractory-lined reactors. Further refinements convert titania tetrachloride into titanium dioxide (TiO2), a white pigment used for paints.
VISIL®, a moderate-density, vitreous silica firebrick, offers benefits for reactors and downstream dryers fed with high-purity titanium ore. VISIL® provides good resistance to chlorine-process gases and excellent thermal-shock resistance. It can be produced in a large variety of brick shapes to meet your needs.
KX-99® is a dense, high-fired super-duty firebrick offering benefits for reactor applications fed with lower-purity titanium ores. KX-99® is resistant to chlorine gases and has low porosity to withstand chlorine gas penetration or vapor deposition. A large variety of brick shapes is available.
