Secondary brass operations typically use rotary furnaces to retrieve brass from numerous scrap sources. These rotary furnaces often experience harsh slagging practices in which soda ash, borax, fluorspar, lime, and silica are typically used as additions. To combat these harsh slags, shops typically use high-alumina brick, such as HarbisonWalker International’s KRUZITE®-70, or magnesite-chrome bricks, like NARMAG® 60 DB and NARMAG® 6260.
