The reverberatory furnace is the most commonly used piece of lead-smelting equipment in secondary lead-processing applications. These furnaces experience highly aggressive slags comprised of soda ash, borax, lead oxide, and silica additions. To combat these aggressive slags, slag lines are commonly zoned with HarbisonWalker International’s fused-grain magnesite-chrome NARMAG® FG or SUPER NARMAG® FG bricks. Upper sidewalls are typically lined with direct-bonded chrome-magnesite products, such as HWI’s NARMAG® HNF 27 and NARMAG® HNF 31.
