The top-blown rotary converter (TBRC) is a general-purpose unit for copper and precious metals production. A central feature of the TBRC is the constantly high-melting and refining efficiency. For precious metals refining, input materials can include precious metal–containing ores and scrap alloys from other non-ferrous processes. Depending on the task, different water-cooled lances are used for melting, oxidation, and reduction. Due to rotation during the melting process, the hot lining is continuously turned underneath the cold-charged material, leading to optimized heating efficiency. TBRCs are processing many different quality scraps, including printed circuit boards, dust, slag, and lead-production alloys containing precious metals.
SUPER NARMAG® FG, NARMAG® FG, and NARMAG® 60 DB are excellent refractory choices for the backup linings. Magnesite chrome refractories have the strength, temperature resistance, and chemistries to resist the slags generated in TBRCs.
