Ferroalloys refer to various alloys of iron with a high proportion of one or more other elements such as manganese, aluminum, silicon, or chrome. They are contained in the metal used in steel and iron foundries. Ferroalloys are produced by two methods: in a blast furnace or in an electric arc furnace. Electric arc furnaces are becoming the standard, replacing blast furnaces. HarbisonWalker International offers high-alumina bricks, such as HP-CAST® ULTRA and KORUNDAL XD®, for acidic slag conditions. HWI also offers products for ladles and repairs, such as PLASTECH® 85P.
