Power Boilers

Boilers combust fuel to create steam for processes or to generate electricity. By-products of this combustion can be either dry or slagging, and airborne by-products like fly ash are produced. Fuel source greatly affects the operation and design of the boiler. Specific refractory applications like ash hoppers, cyclones, and boiler floors each need tailored solutions to protect the unit and ensure dependable operation.

Boiler refractory choices are heavily dependent on fuel source, with the most common sources being coal and natural gas. However, even within these two categories, service conditions can vary greatly due to boiler design, operation conditions, and the specific origins of the fuel. Concerns generally include alkali/chemical attack, impact, abrasion, thermal shock, and mixtures of reducing/oxidizing atmospheres.
