Boilers combust fuel to create steam for processes or to generate electricity. By-products of this combustion can be either dry or slagging, and airborne by-products like fly ash are produced. Fuel source greatly affects the operation and design of the boiler. Boiler refractory choices are heavily dependent on fuel source, with the most common sources being coal and natural gas.
