Gasifiers are fueled by municipal solid wastes or biomass fuels at temperatures from 1800°F to as high as 4500°F. They produce syngas, which can be used for ethanol plants, municipal solid waste plants, and other biomass plants. They are typically used to produce steam or as a fuel for gas turbines to generate electricity.

HarbisonWalker International has a deep knowledge base of gasification technology. With prior experience in chrome-alumina brick from the glass industry, HWI products like SERV® 95 and RESERV® 50 have already been used with great success. Most recently, in collaboration with the US Department of Energy, HWI has developed AUREX® 95 P, a chrome-alumina brick specifically for gasification.
