As the name implies, liquid injection units are used almost exclusively for pumpable liquid wastes, but they may also be used for waste gases. There are several different designs, both vertical and horizontal, but most are refractory-lined cylinders. The wastes are atomized and injected through burners and burned in suspension. The refractory environments are extremely dependent on the compositions of the waste stream and the intended operating temperatures. Any variability of the two will also play into the refractory decision. Brick such as KALA® SR, UFALA®, KORUNDAL XD®, or TUFLINE® 90 DM are commonly used to line liquid injection units. In areas where monolithics are required, PLASTECH® 85P, PLASTECH® 90P, and PLASTECH® RUBY® have all worked well.
