A cupola is a melting furnace used in foundries to melt cast iron. The overall shape is cylindrical, and the equipment is arranged vertically and supported with legs. The overall look is similar to a smokestack lined with refractory, and it varies in diameter. HWI offers a wide array of products for cupolas, including NISIC 20 brick, which has high thermal conductivity and excellent abrasion resistance. HWI also recommends using PLASTECH® 90P monolithic around the tuyeres because it can withstand the high temperatures in this area of cupola.
